KATANNUTA WELLNESS

Fire and stress have much in common. Uncontrolled, fire leaves devastation in its wake. Similarly, uncontrolled stress is destructive to personal health and happiness and can also prevent you from achieving your true potential.

Controlled stress, by contrast, is a potent source of creative energy which helps you live life to the full and feel positive, creative and enthusiastic.

While you can never completely avoid stress, you can learn to manage it. When managed correctly, the potential energy locked within stress can help you achieve your goals, safeguard your health and lead you to even greater happiness, courage and fulfilment.

Although stress is something that affects us at home and work, Katannuta Wellness mainly works with companies wishing to minimise occupational stress.

But firstly, what is stress?
Stress is a combination of physical and psychological reactions to events that challenge or threaten us.

So, what then is Occupational stress?
Occupational stress is a pattern of emotional, cognitive, behavioural and psychological reactions to adverse and noxious aspects of work content, work organisation and work environment. Occupational stress is caused by a poor match between us and our work, by conflicts between our roles at work and outside it and by not having a reasonable degree of control over our own work.

Simply put, occupational stress occurs when there is conflict between workplace demands and a worker's degree of control.

Occupational stress is a serious health and safety hazard that can have devastating effects.
Uncontrolled stress can lead to strain. Strain is where your attitude becomes negative. You become irritable, frustrated and cynical.
Uncontrolled strain can lead to burnout.
Burnout is a condition where you simply have no motivation to do anything and become susceptible to opportunistic viruses such as flu.
Should burnout not be addressed, the next stage is depression and/or anxiety.

How should you address occupational stress?
Do whatever it is that regenerates you, that allows you to rest and recuperate.
Rest, exercise, good diet, take up a hobby, meditate, have a massage.

Obviously these suggestions are not entirely possible when at work and you don't always have time after work to sit and meditate for 30 minutes or take yourself off to a spa for a massage...enter Katannuta Wellness.

On-site massage
Katannuta Wellness mobile massage therapists specialise in Indian Head Massage and chair massage. We use a portable massage chair which is specifically designed to be lightweight and easy to move. Employees are fully clothed and lie forward with their faces comfortably resting in a face cradle. This type of massage is performed without the use of oils and takes between 20-30 minutes depending on the massage chosen.

Both treatments are upper body tension relief massages and include the upper back, neck, shoulders and head. Indian Head Massage also includes the upper arms and face.

Stress profiles and wellness assessments
Our on-site psychologist has developed a stress and wellness questionnaire which allows us to assess the level of occupational stress of employees. Once the questionnaire has been completed, we arrange short interviews between employees and our trained wellness consultants. These interviews are required to enable us to meet the staff and make a professional decision as to the stress level of employees.
All questionnaires and interviews are strictly confidential and although we report back to the necessary people in the company, we do not report on individuals.
Our written report to the company will offer our recommendations for stress reduction and managing wellness in the workplace.

Coaching
Although coaching is a personal choice, we offer one on one coaching sessions between our wellness consultants and employees. We offer human development/life coaching and workplace stress reduction coaching. We also help the company and individuals set goals and/or targets with rewards when goals and/or targets are achieved.

Workshops and courses
We have a vast network of experts who offer their knowledge to individuals and companies who wish to learn something new.

Ergonomic assessments
Our wellness consultants will assess hazards such as hot or cold conditions, poor ergonomic design, poor ventilation, noise, noxious or toxic fumes etc.
Our written report will offer our recommendations.

Wake-up self massage solutions
We teach staff members a wake-up massage routine and also massage techniques for massaging your own aching and tense muscles.

Corporate Wellness Days
Should a company wish to host an on-site Wellness day for their staff or clients, Katannuta Wellness offers Indian Head Massage, Chair massage, manicures, pedicures, hand and foot massages and also reflexology.

These treatments are all offered on-site as they are non-invasive therapies that don't require disrobing or messy oils and lotions.

Although we do offer holistic full body massage, we prefer this treatment to be offered on a gift voucher basis as this massage requires the client to undress and oils are used.
This treatment is better done at home unless the company has a private room and shower facilities.
